The Di Giovanna Winery, a 5th generation family property managed by brothers Gunther and Klaus, is located in western Sicily, nestled in Monte Genuardo's mountainside. The estate spans almost 100 hectares, including 65 hectares of vineyards, 14 hectares of olive groves, and 21 hectares of wheat fields and forests. The vineyards, situated in the small DOC of Contessa Entellina and Sambuca di Sicilia, consist of five distinct plots: Miccina, Gerbino, Paradiso, San Giacomo, and Fiuminello.
After conducting micro-pedoclimatic studies, the vineyards were planted with both indigenous and select international varieties. White grapes include Grillo, Catarratto, and Chardonnay, while red varieties feature Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Syrah, and Merlot. The vineyards are cultivated using certified organic farming methods and are trained on single cordons with spur pruning.
Di Giovanna produces a wide array of wines exclusively from their estate vineyards, divided into three lines: Gerbino, Vurria, and Helios. Gerbino wines pay homage to the family's historic 5th generation vineyard, Vurria highlights native Sicilian varietals, and Helios, named after the Greek sun god, serves as the family's flagship wines dedicated to the winery's founder, Aurelio Di Giovanna.
In 2018, the family introduced natural wines, evoking the artisanal flavors of their ancestors' creations, made without sulphites and bottled unfilterGiovanna Winery continues to focus on native Sicilian varietals and select international varieties, embracing organic winemaking methods for their estate-produced and bottled wines.
